January 2024 School Board Meeting

The Mount Vernon R-V Board of Education held its Regular Meeting on Thursday, January 18.  Below are items of interest:

The Board recognized our MV-MVPs for the month of January.  Our Band Director Alex Weinzierl and our Assistant Director Jack Milzarek were our co-recipients in January.  Their nomination contained the following narrative:

I can't even begin to express how these "rookie" teachers (a first year and second year) have stepped up and transformed our band program. Mr. Weinzierl is incredibly organized, sending out a weekly plan to keep both students and parents informed of upcoming events and expectations. Watching him conduct and instruct is inspiring. He has established incredible rapport with his students and they strive to work toward the bar that he has set. Mr. Milzarek has absolutely bloomed this year and their partnership has allowed him to be more involved and take on more of a leadership role. They truly balance each other as musicians and seeing them work together is a beautiful thing!

One of the most noticeable things about our band directors is how humble they are. They make the wins, the trophies, and the accolades about the KIDS. It's clear that they have gone above and beyond as directors, but they quietly step out of the spotlight and direct the attention to the students. They've also made some great changes to the band program including holding concerts on weeknights, marching with the Seneca Band in the district play-off game, and having the pep band play longer at home games. There's just an incredible vibe this year and we're so proud of our band!

Both Mr. Weinzierl and Mr. Milzarek work SO well with other teachers, coaches, and activities. It's not easy being in band. These kids perform YEAR ROUND, and often do other sports and activities. Our directors are so personable, friendly, understanding and compassionate. They celebrate their students' successes in all areas and strive to be an integral part of the MV school district. We are so lucky to have them here!

Congratulations to Mr. Weinzierl and Mr. Milzarek on this recognition!  They were out with students on Thursday evening and will be invited back to a later Board Meeting for recognition.
